I'm sorry, I don't understand why you are giving out correct printer codes and at the same time complaining about non-existing notes, saying that somebody enters notes with impossible printer codes.

The point is that not every printer code is compatible with every serial number.

Printer codes theirselves don't help the fakers even the smallest bit, since they can be checked from any note as well. The printer codes aren't coded theirselves, but work with the coding of serial numbers. So, without a serial number the short code is useless.

Can anyone confirm whether the 3 digits following the printer letter are definitely either the plate number or printing series, as I read somewhere?
If so, why 3 digits? Were they really planning to use more than a hundred plates at a time?!

(update: this has been answered already - v. infra)

"640k ought to be enough for anyone". Always remember not to set the maximum values too low. They might be needed some day. The extra zero doesn't do any bad and its place may be used for something unimaginable in the future. That's why it's there. I guess.

Now is that being cryptic or succint? :)

Aaron, what is strange about this? The H6 part, when Finnish printer plates are supposed to end in G5 at most for 5 and 10 euro bills? (For those who don't know what we're talking about, check http://euro.anthill.de/euro.pdf for detailed info on printer plate sizes.)

Exactly. I thought G5 is the maximum. If that is not an error I want to get to know more about the note on which this short code has occurred.

The site is very good btw. :)

Ah, look at all the lonely Euronotes. Where do they all come from? (The Beatles, Eleanor Rigby)
